Elite Eight – Day 2

These are the final match ups for the elite eight! Winners will be determined Thursday and will advance to the Final Four!

3 – Jurgen Moltmann – from the book The Crucified God
“God allows himself to be humiliated and crucified in the Son, in order to free the oppressors and the oppressed from oppression and to open up to them the situation of free, sympathetic humanity.” God became man that dehumanized men might become true men. We become true men in the community of the incarnate, the suffering and loving, the human God.”

VS.

1 – Walter Brueggemann – from the book – Sabbath as Resistance
“Sabbath, in the first instance, is not about worship. It is about work stoppage. It is about withdrawal from the anxiety system of Pharaoh, the refusal to let one’s life be defined by production and consumption and the endless pursuit of private well-being.”

6 – Pope Francis
“I prefer a church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security.”

VS

4 – Oscar Romero – from the book Violence of Love
“We have never preached violence, except the violence of love, which left Christ nailed to a cross, the violence that we must each do to ourselves to overcome our selfishness and such cruel inequalities among us. The violence we preach is not the violence of the sword, the violence of hatred. It is the violence of love, of brotherhood, the violence that wills to beat weapons into sickles for work.”
